This game came out in 2011. It is the ninth installment of the Need for Speed series, and also the seventh console-based release. A downloadable content pack was released on October 18, 2011 called "Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Summertime Content Pack". This game is based on police pursuits of speeders while trying to avoid any civilian cars or cops that may get in the way during your hunt. You are able to choose which side you want to be on with cop chases, typically being on the side of either a racer or police officer. You can then select which place you want to race or chase in, like city downtowns, city junkyards (which include police stations), cities that are highly based on the Grand Theft Auto series, or even through an airport. You are also able to pick how long you want the race or pursuit to be, with options being five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes, twenty-five minutes, and thirty minutes. If you are playing as a police officer during a pursuit, then if your wanted level is up to four stars then you will have access to spike strips that will be scattered along the track that can tire out any racer who hits them by slowing them down really bad. However, if your wanted level is above four stars then you will have to use a police-only vehicle on the track. You can set up a pursuit on a custom wanted level of anywhere from one star to five stars, as opposed to the usual two-star levels that are typically seen in previous Need for Speed games. In addition, you can select which route you want the pursuit to take, with options being via freeways, city streets or highways. You can also set up a pursuit that will require you to make a certain amount of speed through a particular area before hitting a speed trap and getting a five minute time limit. If you go through a speed trap at a high speed before getting five minutes of time then your pursuit will end. This game also includes hours of gameplay as well as many types of play modes such as: Pursuit, Racing and Hot Pursuit. Other new features include the ability to use police cars equipped with special features such as spike strips and EMP jammers, and the ability to use shortcuts for an advantage in the race. The game also includes different types of police vehicles and tracks depending on where you choose to race or chase, such as desert environments, forested hills, city streets and junkyards. In addition, there are special police hunt missions that involve the player using a camera view from a helicopter to reveal the location of a racer to other police units when they are in pursuit. In June 2018, EA announced the release of an updated version of this game for iOS and Android. The updated version is called Need for Speed: No Limits and was created by Firemonkeys Studios - which EA purchased in 2014. It is free-to-play and allows players to purchase content with real money. This game was developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts. The PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 versions were released on November 15, 2011 in North America, November 18 in Australia and November 20 in Europe. eccc085e13
